Biography
Karl Lozanne, MD, was born in San Jose, Costa Rica and later moved to Queens, NY, where he attended Brooklyn Technical High School excelling in academics and athletics.
After graduating from Brown University with a degree in human biology and a varsity football letter, Dr. Lozanne taught high school biology in the Providence, RI, public school system. He subsequently attended Yale University School of Medicine where he studied the glial reaction to materials implanted into the brain.
Dr. Lozanne, the first black neurosurgery resident at the University of Pittsburgh, began his chief residency year in June of 2008. He has interests in multiple aspects of neurosurgery. This past year, he focused on brain tumor surgery, awake craniotomies and researched a novel frameless, pinless, stereotactic biopsy technique. He plans on acquiring additional skills in minimally invasive cranial and spinal neurosurgery as a chief resident.
