Biography
Michael Horowitz, MD, joined the faculty of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh in August 1999. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon and neurointerventional radiologist.
Dr. Horowitz received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. Following a neurosurgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh and an interventional neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, he was named assistant professor of neurosurgery and radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
Dr. Horowitz is an tenured professor of neurosurgery and radiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, director of UPMC’s Center for Neuroendovascular Therapy and associate director of the Cranial Nerve Disorders Center.
Dr. Horowitz performs more than 1200 neurosurgical and neuroradiological procedures/year, has published over 100 articles in refereed journals, one book/monograph on neuroendovascular surgery and over 30 book chapters. His research on the effects of subarachnoid hemorrhage on cardiac function is funded by a five year $2.8 million NIH R01 grant for which he is the primary investigator
